A Tokyo Apache official told The Japan Times on Thursday that And1 Mix Tape team player Tony "Go Get it" Jones will join the bj-league side. The official said the league is going to announce the signing of Jones on Friday. Jones, a Chicago native, is a 201-cm forward and is expected to fill the hole left by Nick Billings, who was released from the team early last month. In the past, Jones has been invited to NBA training camps, including ones for the Washignton Wizards and Memphis Grizzlies. The Phoenix Flame, an expansion team in the International Basketball League, have added Tony Jones to their 2007 roster. Jones, better known as 'Go Get It' from the And1 Mix Tape Tour and the ESPN show Streetball, will play shooting guard and both forward positions for the Flame. Jones, 6'8", played at Mesa Community College (1997-1999) before transferring to Chicago State University to complete his collegiate career. Chicago Rockstars to sign "Go Get It"?
The ABA Chicago Rockstars have been talking with And1 streetball star Tony "Go Get It" Jones about the possibility of playing with the team this season. The And1 mix tape tour landed in Chicago this past weekend and "Go Get It" was one of its featured stars. Jones, a native of Chicago, attended Chicago State University, the home of the Chicago Rockstars. Jones also played this past Sunday in the Chicago Pro AM summer league that the Rockstars are participating in. "Tony looked very polished and his basketball IQ was very good," said owner Marques Sullivan. Imports continue to dominate the landscape for all the wrong reasons, but it's unlikely to stop the Wellington Saints getting their third National Basketball League win tomorrow when they take on the Otago Nuggets at The Events Centre. As the Saints contemplated the departure of American Tony "Go Get It" Jones yesterday, the Nuggets were rushing through paperwork in a bid to clear his countryman Branduinn Fullove. Jones will board a plane tomorrow after struggling with injury and form. The boy's effort began when his father set up a Nerf hoop in his room, a self-imposed daily diet of jump shots and dunks, spins and struts. The effort continued at courts near Lake Michigan and at playgrounds on his native South Side, through high school at Chicago Vocational Tech and junior college basketball in Arizona, through his playing days at Chicago State and his workouts with Michael Jordan's Washington Wizards.
