25/06/07 - Fontenette takes dunking to new heights
T.J. Fontenette goes by several names, whether it's his legal name, Taurian, or his "Air Up There" moniker from the And1 Mixtape Tour. But ever since joining the Ball4Real Streetball Tour, he's known simply as Mr. 720. Fontenette, 25, acquired the nickname after his 720-degree dunk in Houston last year, in which he made two full rotations in mid-air. The clip has made him an instant star on YouTube. "I still can't believe I did it," said Fontenette, who says he has done the dunk six or seven times since. "But the video's there, so I guess I have to." .. read more..
23/07/06 - The And1 Tour Stop - Inhumanly Possible
There are some things human beings just aren't supposed to have the power to do, but Taurian Fontenette has proven that he's capable of at least one of them. At first glance, one might view the oft-circulated internet video of Fontenette (a.k.a. "Air Up There") and his 720 Dunk as a forgery. A Powerade commercial of Michael Vick throwing 100-yard passes and knocking receivers out of their shoes with fireball passes makes this dunk, in which Air Up There spins around two full times before dunking, seem computer generated too. .. read more.. |
17/07/06 - Q & A with "Air Up There"
We can't seem to keep Taurian Fontenette, aka "Air Up There" from the And1 Mix Tape Tour, off of our Dimemag.tv website. A couple months ago we posted a video of Air Up There pulling off a between-the-legs 360, a dunk that ESPN " City Slam" finalist High Rizer told us only two people in the world can do (Rizer being the other). Then last week we got our hands on a video of Air Up There rocking a 720 dunk from the Mix Tape Tour’s recent stop in Houston. You can check out the video for yourself right here. .. read more.. |
17/07/06 - Taurian "Air Up There" Fontenette interview
Fans know Taurian Fontenette better as Air Up There, from the And1 Mix Tape Tour. He became a sensation after he completed a 720-degree dunk June 28 in Houston. We caught up with Fontenette, who's scheduled to appear with And1 on Thursday at Cobo Arena. But a thumb injury will prevent him from playing. Question: Is this your first trip to Detroit? Answer: I was there last year during the tour. Hopefully, this year will be a whole lot better. ... I was so focused on the game. Didn't want to do too much to mess up, so I just chilled. Hopefully, I'll get to go out and do more different things. .. read more.. |
29/06/06 - The Air Up There's 720 Dunk
Any basketball fan can remember his favorite dunk of all-time. For some, it's Michael Jordan taking off from the free-throw line. Others prefer the old-school Doctor J one-handed thunder slam. For me, the dunk that has always stood out in my mind was Vince Carter's 'It's Over' dunk in the 2000 slam dunk contest, when he bounced the ball off the ground, brought it through his legs in midair and slammed it. It was my favorite dunk ' that is, until Wednesday night. When I heard that Hitchcock native T.J. Fontenette, a.k.a The Air Up There, and the rest of the And1 Mix Tape Tour were coming to town, I knew I had to be in attendance. .. read more.. |
28/06/06 - 'Air Up There' is downright smooth
It might not quite equate with one of the most important events in history, but And1 Mix Tape Tour veteran Hugh "Baby Shaq" Jones remembers the exact moment he first experienced the skills of Taurian Fontenette on the basketball court. Fontenette, a native of Hitchcock, made quite an impression on the whole streetball crew with his above-the-rim game when the tour made a stop in Houston last year. "I've never seen nobody jump like that before," Baby Shaq said during Tuesday night's Crash the Court event at the Fonde Rec Center. "That 360 between-the-legs was enough for me. .. read more.. |
