Alfredo Tovar Interview
With Aplus films new MadGameHoops West Coast Basketball DVD soon to be released streetballin.net caught up with Alfredo Tovar aka Aplus to get the low down on whats happening with him, his company and MadGameHoops.

BT. Firstly I have to congratulate you on a superb mixtape. I saw the new DVD and I was really impressed. The editing was real nice and there were a lot crazy highlights on there.
Aplus. Thanks man I really appreciate the love. It took a lot of time and patience but through the process I definitely stepped my editing game up. And the footage, once again time and patience. Highlights usually happen when you least expect it, so I had to stay on my toes when shooting.

BT. You personally had a lot of highlights on the new DVD, dropping people all over the place. I hear your in college on the East Coast playing D3 ball. How is that for you?
Aplus. Well I'm a baller first and everything else second. And since a lot of the footage from the DVD is from leagues, tournaments, and playgrounds I play in I had to make an appearance. As far as college, its been the best experience of my life. I turned down offers from D2 colleges to attend Emerson College in Boston MA. Its a D3 school but its also in the top 3 for my major of TV/video and film so when I got in, I knew I had to go there. The transition from playing in the Los Angeles City Public Leagues in High School to the more structured form of basketball that is played at the D3 level wasn't as hard as I thought. My game fit perfect with my coach's system, my game has grown a lot and every now and then I throw who ever is guarding some sick crossovers. In my 2 years in college we have gone to 2 straight conference championship games but lost both times. But I promise we will win it this coming season and move on to the NCAA tourney.

BT. For all those people out there that have never heard of Madgame tell us what it is and how it got started?
Aplus. Madgame began as a highlight reel of my senior years high school basketball team. You see I ran the point, and I had two division 1 college wings running the lanes, so we had allot of highlights. I started messing around with a basic program on my computer and made a 5 minute movie of the seasons best plays. My brother and I came up with the name MADGAME. I showed it to my teammates and they loved it but I never thought I would pursue anything with this video stuff. Now it stands for the king of hoops, 100% entertainment. Real footage, real games, no set up stuff like them and1 things

BT. So is this how Aplus Films got started?
Aplus. Aplus Films began when I decided to get into this video business for real. I made a decision that this is what I would be making my living off. I made up my mind that I would fallow this curiosity I had for video production and devote my time to being the best at what I do. I had no previous experience with this video stuff, no one in my family is in the industry, I come from working class parents and nothing has ever been given to me, I have always been taught to work for whatever I want. Since the age of 9 all I have done is play basketball 24/7. I played AAU so I never had summer time to go explore other talents, all I did was play basketball. So when I discovered this talent for video I just ran with it. I'm only 21 so with AplusFilms I'm setting my self up for a positive future. And since all I have ever done is play basketball, all of Aplus Films projects so far have been Basketball related.

BT. So who's involved and what are you planning for the future?
Aplus. AplusFilms consists of my self and my younger brother. He's still doing his high school basketball thing so he helps when he can. I'm the director and editor while my brother takes care of the soundtrack. Others who help out are my long time friend Ramall GoodRich and Morales Hendricks. Ramall aka "NoHeDidn't" can be seen as a featured player in the new MadGameHoops:WestCoastBasketball DVD, he takes care of promotion and he's got some serious hops!. Morales is my college teammate, he's from Dorchester MA and he is working on an East Coast based MadGameHoops DVD. Plans for the future include more DVDs, music videos, and movies. This summer we are working on two DVDs, one, MadGameHoops2: CaliforniaBallin and MadGameHoops3: BostonBallin. The music video thing will kick off soon, I'm putting the finishing touches on getting some artists to let us do a vid for them. So anyone who's interested holla at me. The movie thing will most likely kick off once I graduate, I'm working on a script now, and you know its basketball related, not no Like Mike stuff, more like Hoop Dreams meets Hustle and Flow meets BELLY. So I will stay on my grind and make all that happen.

BT. Now I was watching the credits at the end of the DVD and I noticed there were a lot of players featured in the mixtape. I think I counted more than 40. Which players are in the actual Madgame team and can you tell us a little more about them?.
Aplus. Team Madgame consists of players that are featured on the MadGameHoops DVD's. They are players that have shown me talent that stands out from other players. The main roster consists of Black Handle, Air Dogg, Poster Boy, Kreator, Aplus (lol, me) , Mr.Bounce, and NoHeDidn't. Those 7 players are the main team, the members that play in events and have the most exposure on the net. But Team MadGame is not limited to those 7, there are over 20 players that can say they are Team Madgame members. Example, in the MadGameHoops:WCB DVD the LA vs Oakland game (MG vs YPA) Our L.A. Team consisted of players from MadGame, L.A. Hooptainers, and the Hollywood Allstars. Basically Team MadGame features the best players from the SoCal Area, if you have real game, mad game, then you're part of Team Madgame. Also, we are not just streetballers in the And1 sense. We have players from Pro to college to just streetballers. We encompass all aspects of basketball

BT. Is there anything you want to say to the people out there before we finish
Aplus. I want to tell the people to buy the DVD. There's been a lot of hard work put into this DVD. A lot of sweat, a lot of hours, a lot of games. Our motto at Aplus Films is 100% quality nothing less. We are not a big company, we are on the come up, but we produce the best basketball videos out there. The MadGameHoops WestCoastBasketball DVD features real games, real footage. Nothing set up like them And1 tapes of old. I want to thank fans in advance, I want to let everyone know that I appreciate all the love we have received from e-mails, to the myspace messages at www.myspace.com/madgamedvd. And ultimately I would like to thank Streetballin.net for the love, thanks alot.
