28/03 - Hot Sauce" in Lake Charles
Nothing but net! Basketball will never be the same in the lake area after Hot Sauce and the Legends of the Blacktop meet players from the Tournament of the Stars head to head in a whirlwind competition at the Lake Charles Civic Center, Sat., April 2, at 6 p.m. "These performers are normally seen on ESPN. Hot Sauce promises to treat the crowd with new moves and amazing displays of basketball wizardry this year.
23/03 - Bobbito Garcia: "Freedom is the difference between streetball and the NBA"
Bobbito Garcia: When I was younger I played pro basketball in Puerto Rico for Capitanes de Arecibo. And the fact that, at 38, I still can play at a pro level for the Bounce Magazine team (Garcia is the the co-founder of this streetball mag) and in the Project Playground somehow makes me feel very proud of myself.
21/03 - Abyss release's 12" Single, "It's a great thing"
During the past few years Abyss has been gaining major exposure through various projects and appearances. In 2003 Abyss's song, "If I Wasn't", was featured on the YPA: Players Ball 2K3, a street basketball DVD that showcases some of the best street ballers on the West Coast. In 2005 YPA will be releasing their follow up DVD, "The War", which will also feature another hot track from Abyss, "Times Up".
16/03 - Ubisoft Teams up with AND 1
to Bring Gamers Their Own Mix Tape Tour
Today, Ubisoft, one of the world's largest videogame publishers, announced that it has signed an exclusive licensing agreement to make videogames with AND 1, the performance basketball footwear and apparel company best known for its Mix Tape(R) Tour property and its more than 100 endorsers in the NBA. Ubisoft's agreement with AND 1 is the second sports license deal inked since the announcement of the company's entrance into the sports videogame market.
12/03 - Brandon 'Quake' Lewis
The summer of 96' a former Negro Leuage guard Owen "Candyman" Jones decided it was time for his great-grandson to learn the ropes of the local hoops community in central Toledo. Against his mothers will he took the boy to the gritty "Indiana" park where the 9 year old played against varsity and junior varsity players for local scott and libey high schools. Little did the boys know that they were developing a heart of a playgroud legend. Brandon Lewis is his government name but people in the glass know him as "Quake" this is his story.
11/03 - Get your game on!
With ankle-breaking crossover dribbles, no-look passes and mouth-opening dunks, the AND 1 streetballers are the Harlem Globetrotters of the hip-hop generation. But they don't have teams that travel with them to make them look good. On their summer tours, AND 1 comes to town and takes on the best local ballers. Since this is the winter tour, the ballers will play against each other. That's even cooler. AND 1 Streetball Live's current 12-city tour ends at the Colonial Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
07/03 - 'Silk' uses hoops to soften the street
His real name is Andre Poole, but in the world of street basketball, he is referred to only as Silk. "It's because my moves are so smooth," he said. Poole is part of the Street Basketball Association All-Stars, which traveled with the NCAA March Madness Shoot-Out to the Hearnes Center on Sunday. Columbia was the first stop for the event, which will visit NCAA tournament sites on its way to the Final Four on April 2, at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.
03/03 - 'Streetball Live' crew holds court at the Pete
So, you like basketball. You try to keep up with the NBA, even without a hometown team, and you follow the Pitt Panthers through their unbeatable highs and baffling lows. But open the door, and walk down the street to the park or the school yard. In the right place, at the right time, there's a good chance you'll find a game as intense and exciting as anything you'll see on TV. Most people call them pickup games. For others, it's simply streetball.
