31/08 - Hot Sauce takes his shot at acting
Would you ring the room of Hot Sauce please?" The desk clerk at the Waterside Sheraton in Norfolk looks puzzled. After all, it isn't every day that a grown man comes to the desk and asks for Hot Sauce. It, dear reader, is a part of the job. Hot Sauce is, indeed, a person, if an elusive one. He was in Norfolk to participate with sharp moves and slam dunks in the And1 Mixed Tape tour. ..read more..

On Friday night, the tour reached its final destination - the Mecca of Basketball - Madison Square Garden. The crowd was fired up from the very start and the players gave them every reason to stay on their feet. ..read more..

25/08 - New York takes EBC America Championship
That the Entertainers Basketball Classic finished the summer strong might be a major understatement. Monday’s Terror Squad-Black Wall Street championship final was historically (and, at times, hysterically) heavy, while the EBC America ultimate meeting between Seattle and New York last night was simply the best basketball game outside of the NBA anyone will ever have a chance to see. ..read more..

25/08 - EBC America - Seattle vs Boston
The night’s first game was EBC America opener Seattle v. Boston, with Seattle featuring New York Knicks Jamal Crawford and Nate Robinson as well as the Portland Trail Blazers lottery rookie Brandon Roy. In addition, 7-foot Spencer Hawes, an incoming freshman at the University of Washington who rejected scholarship offers from Duke and North Carolina, played center. Boston, obviously having a exceedingly bad week in sports, could only counter with Will Blaylock (last pick in the second round by the Pistons in the recent draft) and onetime UConn forward Scott Hazelton. ..read more..

24/08 - The And1Tour Stop: The Anti-League
In this world of Streetball, NBA Commissioner David Stern is the epitome of a “suit,” - stuffy, full of rules, the enforcer of law and order and a typical representative of corporate America. Moreover, Mr. Stern has the perception of being unconnected with his players and even more so with the fans. He represents everything that Streetball opposes. In other words, he is the “Establishment.” Streetball wants no part of this lifestyle (well, we will make an exception for the endorsement part but that’s okay). Streetball is a league of character, charisma, and showmanship. ..read more..

23/08 - Terror Squad takes 2006 EBC Title
This time, it was payback time. This time, it was Black Wall Street’s turn to play games. Unfortunately, these are not always BASKETBALL games – but, then again, this is the Entertainers Basketball Classic at Rucker Park where anything can happen. Or, as it was the case with Thursday’s originally scheduled title tiff, NOT happen. At any rate, for what seemed like an eternity and a half, there was no Black Wall Street. ..read more..

22/08 - EBC Playoffs Day Two
Day Two of the playoffs featured Rich Soil Monstars going up against Certified, and Mrs. Jones X-Men up against TERROR SQUAD!!!! Rich Soil proved all season long that they deserved to be in the playoffs, and they played like that against Certified. The jumped to an early lead and never looked back. Despite the heroic efforts of Kenyatta Brown of Certified, the Wire and Rashad Bell of Rich Soil paced their team and combined for 46 of Rich Soils 73 points. Late in the second half, Certified got within 9 on several occasions, but they just couldnt chip away any further. Rich Soil took the win, and they now have a chance to take it to the Defending Undefeated Champions, Black Wall Street. ..read more..

21/08 - EBC Playoffs Day One
The playoffs are on and in full affect. The 6-1 Pearl Harbor played the 4-3 D-Block. D-Block who has NBA star J.R. Smith got into the playoffs by the skin of their teeth. Pearl Harbor had a comfortable road to the playoffs, but we all know that the playoffs are a beast within itself. Everything is 0-0; no wins, no losses, until the buzzer goes off. D-Block, lead by J.R. Smith, jumped out of the gates FAST and EARLY. They went up 8-0 and caused Pearl Harbor to call a timeout. It didnt look good for the Pre-Graduate Cory Fisher, and Reggie Hi-5 Freeman. D-Block seemed to benefit from the timeout more than Pearl Harbor. ..read more..

20/08 - And1’s Main Event has street cred
Waliyy Dixon, the 6-foot-4 son of a longshoreman from Elizabeth, N.J., had enrolled at Rutgers in 1992 after being recruited by two assistant coaches on the staff - Jeff Van Gundy and former NBA guard Eddie Jordan. But both men, then at the start of coaching careers that now have them heading NBA teams, left Rutgers for assistant jobs in the pro ranks shortly after Dixon arrived. Dixon now looks at that time as a crossroads. The fact that he left Rutgers to attend tiny Benedict College in South Carolina was merely the start of a very different path in the basketball business. ..read more..

19/08 - And1 Makes The most of flash and talent
When Taurian “Air Up There” Fontenette leapt, spun around twice in midair and dunked during a game in Houston on June 28, he didn't just make And1 MixTape Tour history, he made pro-basketball history. No one - not even NBA stars like Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson or Michael Jordan - has ever pulled off a 720-degree dunk like that. “It was amazing. It caught everyone completely by surprise,” says Philadelphia native Aaron “AO” Owens, one of Fontenette's And1 teammates. “It was a surprise even to us. He had never even tried that in practice. It was crazy. That was one of those things you'll always remember for the rest of your life.” ..read more..

17/08 - Hoop dreams, street-style
It's not a place as much as a state of mind. That's why they still call it "streetball" even when it's played inside a gym. About 25 ballers signed up to play Tuesday night. And at the end of the evening, one player was chosen for a reserved spot in the open competition that's being held Saturday before the And1 main event at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. And that opens up the possibility (very slim) of being discovered by one of the talent scouts who recruit players for the And1 traveling team. Left standing was Mark Williams, 20, of Wilmington, who has some impressive credentials -- he played on Glasgow High's 2003 state championship team ..read more..

15/08 - Corey Fisher enjoying Rucker education
Anywhere else, Corey Fisher would be the man. With a playmaking ability that earned him attention as early as 6 years old, Fisher was long ago tabbed as one of the city's next great players. He hasn't disappointed and steps onto most basketball courts with a confidence that can intimidate opponents. Not here. Up at 155th, he's had to prove himself to a tough crowd - his own teammates. Playing for Pearl Harbor at the Entertainers Basketball Classic at Rucker Park, Fisher is on a team of city legends. He plays with Rod Strickland, Andre Barrett, Omar Cook and Reggie Freeman and says it's been a crash course in basketball. ..read more..

14/08 - And1 Tour Stop - Orlando Was Hot
As the summer winds down, the 2006 installment of the And1 Mix Tape Tour made its stop in Orlando, and much like previous stops in Central Florida, the tour had it share of interesting side stories. SKY HIGH!. The And1 Tour is known for it’s high flying dunks and jaw dropping ball handling, but for Coco’s Jarrel Kelly, it was a chance to show his ability to dunk in a big way, winning a chance to compete during the halftime Boost Mobile dunk contest. Speechless…” says Kelley on being picked to perform inside the building. “I tried last year, and it just didn’t work out.” Admits Kelley, about the process of getting picked to play in the game. “I was trying to do it again this year." ..read more..

12/08 - And1 Mixtape Tour - Raleigh
The Triangle may be basketball country, but when it comes to streetball -- a revved-up blend of basketball, hip-hop and theatrics -- it just can't compete. "They just have a different style. There's not a lot of ballers out here," said Quintin Slaughtor, who uses "Elevator" as his streetball pseudonym. "It's not as good here as it is in Los Angeles, Houston -- all of those spots. Born out of New York City's intense playground basketball culture, streetball emphasizes a flashy, up-tempo style of play that focuses more on alley-oops and the ability to embarrass your opponent than defense or good shot selection. ..read more..

10/08 - "Silk" Baltimore native shows off his skills
Andre "Silk" Poole knows that success does not come without sacrifice. While he was captain of the Community College of Baltimore County, Essex campus basketball team, Division 1 schools were courting him. Georgetown and Xavier universities were his final choices, but when his grandmother fell ill, he decided to stay home to take care of her, he said. "It was a tough thing, but at the same time, I don't regret it at all," Poole said. "I love her to death." She was on dialysis for 16 years before passing away. ..read more..

09/08 - Things Are Heatin’ Up At the EBC
The weather is not the only thing that’s out-of-control hot at the Entertainers Basketball Classic. With next week’s playoffs fast-approaching, things are sizzling on other fronts as well. Terror Squad, now 6-1, has finally lost one (to 5-1 Pearl Harbor). Rich Soil Monstars mentor “Radio” Raheem “went bonkers on a referee and got tossed out of a gam” last week, according to Cardozo High School coach, and longstanding EBC maven, Ron Naclerio. Danny “265” Artest also held up the family tradition by wanting to get into it with an opponent, “but someone very brave got between them.” The customarily mild-mannered Artest later fell squarely on the top of a photographer at the end of a fast break. ..read more..

09/08 - And1 Mixtape Tour - Miami Recap
...when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." - Samuel Johnson “It’s Miami. What you mean “How do I feel?” - AO. AO.’s commentary on Miami might not have the poetic quality of the famous statement made by Samuel Johnson, but it conveys the message just as effectively. You see, for a streetballer, there is in Miami today all that life can afford. Between the hoops, the heat and the ho...friendly female fans, it’s a ballplayer’s paradise here on this August afternoon in South Florida. ..read more..

08/08 - Next "NBA Street" Unveiled
Electronic Arts' NBA Street has been off the courts for well over a year. But after its somewhat lengthy hiatus, it appears that the franchise was just resting up for something much, much bigger. Heading back to its roots for an inaugural showing on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, NBA Street will be headed to store shelves sometime next year. A next-gen entry in EA's rim-rockin', arcade-style streetball game. This entry in the franchise still allows you to throw down and go to town on others like any other NBA Street meet, but its focus is all about basketball giving hope to the streets that the sport is known in. ..read more..

07/08 - Streetball Extreme - Battle for Europe
The Battle is Over...
To think that only a few months ago a mysterious basketball film fell on the Extreme office doormat, and now the first Streetball Extreme tour has come to an end. After fourteen days of none stop, hectic, sweaty streetball action, the SBX team have finally returned from their whirlwind tour of Europe's blacktop courts. With the hand speed of Paul Daniels, these streetballing pioneers dispatched their European opponents faster than you can say Whizbit, using their unique mix of basketball skills and ball tricky to puzzle the opposition before slamming the ball in their face. ..read more..

04/08 - Dolphin Park Classic - Small Exile Interview
Fears that the absence of a beer garden at this year’s Dolphin Park Classic might keep fans away were, as Mark Twain might say, greatly exaggerated. With rising NBA star Jamal Crawford returning for a third consecutive year with the Home Team, fans flocked to see the Seattle-based pros battle it out against a host of local sides, including the Pasha Bains-led Drive. The two teams hooked up twice, including in a memorable final that went down to the wire. Equally memorable was the athleticism shown by California streetballer Roberto Yong. The Sacramento native wowed the crowd—and judges—with his hoop skills to easily win the slam-dunk contest. ..read more..

02/08 - Young Guns Show Who Are The Kings At Kingdome
The crowd highly anticipated the start of the game as Pearl Harbor’s forward “High Octane” and King’s point man “Crossing Guard”, display their skills on the lay-up line. After the whistle sounds, the game is at an up-and-down the court pace. King’s guard, “Cloud 9”, drove on High Octane for the reverse lay-up making the score 12-8 Kings, at the 13:35 mark. Later, Richard A.K.A. “Chico Stick”, stimulates the crowd with an aggressive put back dunk on the opponent’s head. Helmet! The crowd got rowdy as high school sensations Corey Fisher and O.J. Mayo, ran to their bench to suit up. They were immediately put in the game. Right away, the Crossing Guard crossed up Fisher and finished with a lay-up making the score 20-14, 10:50 remaining. ..read more..

Now, Lincoln High's rising sophomore will get the chance to show off his game nationally from Rucker. He is one of the top national high school players who will take the legendary Harlem court on Sept.1 in the first Boost Mobile Elite 24 Hoops Classic. "I can't wait, it's going to be great," said Stephenson, who plays in the Entertainers Basketball Classic with the team called Terror Squad.
